Jeff Flowers on March 25, 2015 2 Comments A few weeks ago, I found a new pale ale at my local grocery store. Big Mountain Pale Ale from Alaskan Brewing. Without hesitation, I had a six-pack in my cart. Their Icy Bay IPA is one of my favorite American IPAs, and I’m also a huge fan of pale ales, so I knew right away that I had to try this one out.I got home. Poured one into a glass and sat down to get some work done. On the first sip, I instantly fell in love. Hoppy. Citrusy. Refreshing. Everything I love in beer. I needed more. Naturally, I special ordered a keg the very next day. Kegerator Art – Big Mountain Pale Ale Fast forward two weeks, tonight I was a little bored and decided to climb the Big Mountain. I grabbed my daughters driveway chalk. And after an hour or so, and lots of chalky flakes falling in my beer sitting on the drip tray below, this is what I created. Alaskan Brewing says March 27, 2015 at 11:49 am Hi Jeff, Cool artwork! It’s hard not to be generic when you only have a 140 characters. Some of the hops in the Big Mountain are hard to get, so hop availability makes it difficult to make it into a year-round beer. We also think it’s a great beer, so we definitely have plans to bring it back in the future. We just don’t know when and it what form. Cheers! Reply
Jeff Flowers says March 27, 2015 at 11:31 pm Oh, hey guys! Glad you liked it. My 4-year-old seemed peeved that I used up her chalk. So, I kinda owe her. But yeah, I completely understand the availability and limitations of it becoming a year-round. While I do hope you can eventually make it year-round, because it really is a fantastic representation of a pale ale, it’s also kinda nice to have it as a seasonal. Kinda makes me appreciate it when I can get it. And, of course, you would have at least one guy way down in Texas buying it everytime I saw it in the store. Thanks again for shipping a keg down to Austin. Expect a yearly order from me on that. Also, fun fact not mentioned above. The very next day I finished the chalk art above, I went to pour a beer and discovered it was just about gone. Got maybe two pints afterwards. Ah well. On to the next. Cheers! Jeff Reply
