Nick Carr on September 10, 2020 11 Comments *Updated for 2020 – Some seasonal pumpkin beers may no longer be available The season of the pumpkin beer is well upon us. There are plenty of pumpkin beer lists out there, but this one is a little different. I have attempted a list of one pumpkin beer for each state. In doing so am fully aware that I’ve probably left out many a favorite. But I also had the idea of combining some better-known examples with those that have not gotten as much attention, something that ended up being more a consequence of trying to include all 50 states and less a conscious effort on my part. All those included that have Beer Advocate ratings have a score above 75, but many are not rated yet. Maybe this list will help them and others get some attention. For any state that had breweries which made a pumpkin beer at one time, but had not confirmed with me whether they were doing one this year I have listed the brewery, but no further information. These states are marked with an asterisk*. If you don’t agree with the beer picked for a certain state, I’m only one taster/writer and have not tried half of what is on this list, let alone all the others out there. The best way to refine and add to this list is with your input so search out the Pumpkin in your home state! Cheers! *ALABAMA: Cold Blooded Pumpkin Ale from Avondale Brewing Co. (Birmingham, AL) Brewer’s Description: “This English brown ale is infused with real pumpkin, assorted spices and smoked for six hours with hickory. Rounding out the smooth, creamy flavor is a balance of hops, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove, making it a perfect addition to those chilly autumn nights. So grab a glass and snuggle up to the fire, but don’t get too comfortable. You never know what blood-thirsty being is lurking just beyond the firelight…” Learn More About Avondale Brewing Co. Nicoli Carr says October 20, 2015 at 7:54 am Thanks for the comment Bill. Believe me some states were really hard because they have so many well-known pumpkin beers. New York also has Post Road Pumpkin, Southhampton pumpkin ale, and Blue Point pumpkin ale, to name a few. So, I went with on that had excellent Beer Advocate Ratings but was a little less known. I’ve never had the Pumpking it’s a little hard to get way out here in New Mexico, but I’ll have to get my hands on it one of these days. Cheers! Reply

It is not only one of the few pumpkin ales I enjoy, it’s also my favorite ale, period. I buy bottles in September and store them to drink during the spring and early summer. Reply

Anna G says October 21, 2015 at 4:39 pm Is this the only Alaska Brewer Pumpkin Ale you have access to? Seriously. There are so many local craft pumpkin beers here in Alaska that put this one to shame. MSBC’s Trickster or Treat for starters Reply
Nicoli Carr says October 26, 2015 at 9:01 am Hi Anna, Appreciate the feedback. Unfortunately, yes this the only Alaskan Pumpkin beer we have good access to way down here and honestly I hove to say I liked their old pumpkin porter more then I do this new Pumpkin Ale. I realize there a probably tons of local brewers all across the U.S. producing pumpkin ales that would put a lot of these commercial brews to shame… but I had to walk a bit of a line between what would be most available and still halfway decent. Cheers! And stay warm up there! Reply
